If You'd come not, oh my Beloved,
O lord,
This birth would have gone for naught.
in my life,
In heavens, storm-clouds had appeared;
with your illumination,
Without raining, they'd amount to nothing.
You provide happiness
in a new way.

At my door the Unknown Traveler had come;
In this world,
Singing a song of love, He then went off.
hope has come about.
In my keeping the fond memory that He left,
The last days of inertia are over.
It will be offered back beneath His altar.

Though deceased, still now the luster abides;
The shade which covers the illumination of light,
The love of my life has become bright.
the fire that burns the light of life,
With unstinting reverence, conviction has sung:
the lightning that stops the songs of flowers...
This my [[sadhana]], it will surely triumph.
all these, you have this time removed.

Lyrics

Roman script[nb 1] Bengali script Translation

Jiivane tomár álo
Nútan kare báṋcár khushii dila
Bhuvane áshá ela
Jaŕatár sheśer din ese gela

Je cháyá d́hákila álor dyuti
Je águn jválála práńer priiti
Je ashani thámáy phuler giiti
Táder ebár sare jete hala

Bhálabásá nútan bháśá pela
Mánavatá mukulita hala
Krúratár sheśer din nebe ela
Svapner shánti nútan druti pela

O lord,
in my life,
with your illumination,
You provide happiness
in a new way.

In this world,
hope has come about.
The last days of inertia are over.

The shade which covers the illumination of light,
the fire that burns the light of life,
the lightning that stops the songs of flowers...
all these, you have this time removed.
