Lyrics

Roman script[nb 1] Bengali script Translation

Tava patha ceye priya
Diip nive geche ámár
Áṋdhárer sáthe jújhe
Ghrta phuriye geche
Tava krpá jáci je ebár

Pradiip jválá chilo dine ráte tava tare
Jhaiṋjhá jhanatkáre mahiiruha marmare
Ándhárete base áchi tamasáy jege áchi
Pradiipt́i dharo tomár

Ghrta ár salitá mor káche chilo jata
Sab kichu phuráyeche kare áchi máthá nata
Átmasamarpań kari je shata shata
Eibár náo mor bhár

Dear lord,
waiting for you,
my lamp got extinguished.

Struggling with the darkness,
the oil (ghee) became exhausted.

This time i beg your grace.
For you i had kept my lamp burning,
day and night,
saving it from storms and winds (that shake trees).
I am sitting in the darkness,
awake at night,
having to hold and take care of the lamp.

All the items i had,
needed for the lamp to survive,
are now exhausted,
and i am unable to do whatsoever anymore.
I am defeated.

Hence, i surrender myself to you -
a hundred times.
This time, please take my burden.
