Lyrics

Roman script[nb 1] Bengali script Translation

Tomáy khuṋje beŕiyechi
Parvatshire marur páre
Amánishár andhakáre
Ghrta shikhár diipádháre

Sabái bale nái hethá nái
Khuṋje beŕáo kena brthái
Jetháy táhár nijeri t́háṋi
Jáo ná kena se mandire

Mandirete giye dekhi
Pújár upakarań e kii
Pújak áche pújárii áche
Pújya kotháy geche sare

Marma májhe khuṋje dekhi
Lukiye ácho tumi e ki
Pújárii nái pújako nái
Náiko sáji phulbháre

O lord,
I had searched you on mountain peaks
and across the desert,
in intense darkness,
with the kindled ghee wick of my lamp,
when everybody told me:

"no, not here.
Why do you search here in vain?
Why don't you go there,
to your own place?
Why don't you go to the temple over there?"

When i went to the temple,
I saw all the articles required for worship,
the worshipper, the guide,
but had the lord to be worshipped gone?

When i searched within the core of my heart,
within my own "i" feeling,
I saw you hiding there.
There was no worshipper, nor guide,
nor tray laden with flowers and articles.
