O lord,
You had arrived, unbidden;
You came today without announcement
Today, unbidden You departed.
and went away without informing me.
I had been sprawled in street-dust,
But You did lift me up.

I used to lie in the dust of the path,
My garments had been ripped and ragged;
when you pulled me unto you and uplifted me.
Not a morsel to eat had I, or discrimination.
Everything You gave me; everything You taught.

My home lay torn and worn out.
I'd not comprehended human jurisdiction;
I had nothing to eat,
To attain You, I'd not made an effort.
neither did i have intellect nor discriminating capacity.
[[Sadhana]] You taught me, and You gave success.
You gave and taught me everything.

I did not understand
I'd not found the stature of a human;
the capability and right of human beings.
My terrain was wet and caustic.
I never performed
You made honey pour from me, made me articulate;
spiritual practice to attain you.
You raised me up onto Your lap.

You taught me intuitional practice
and gave me attainment.
I did not have the dignity of a human being;
My ground was bitter and wet.
You poured nectar on me,
and made me speak,
You lifted me onto your lap.

Lyrics

Roman script[nb 1] Bengali script Translation

Tumi ná bale esechile
Áj ná bale gele
Ámi pather dhuloy paŕe chilum
Tumi t́ene tulile

Chinna jiirńa vás chila je ámár
Ná chila mukher grás buddhi vicár
Tumi sab kichu more dile sab shikhále

Mánuśer adhikár bujhitám ná
Tomáke pábár kari niko sádhaná
Tumi sádhaná shikháile siddhi dile

Mánuśer marjádá pái ni ámi
Chila tikta jalasikta bhúmi
Tumi madhu d́hele dile mukhe kathá balále
Kole tule nile

You had arrived, unbidden;
Today, unbidden You departed.
I had been sprawled in street-dust,
But You did lift me up.

My garments had been ripped and ragged;
Not a morsel to eat had I, or discrimination.
Everything You gave me; everything You taught.

I'd not comprehended human jurisdiction;
To attain You, I'd not made an effort.
Sadhana You taught me, and You gave success.

I'd not found the stature of a human;
My terrain was wet and caustic.
You made honey pour from me, made me articulate;
You raised me up onto Your lap.
