Lyrics

Roman script[nb 1] Bengali script Translation

Áshár pasará sahasá elo
Álor tuphán nikat́e elo
Álokeri ván adrisamán
Sárá vasudháke d́heke' dilo

Áṋdhár thákilo ná kona końe
Kaluś rahilo ná káháro mane
Práńer pare práń d́háliyá mahápráń
Sab bhávanáy t́ene' nilo

Baddha chilo járá andhakúpe
Bháv-jaŕatár tamasá stúpe
Tárá áṋkhi melilo cáhiyá dekhilo
Úśáy udbhásita aruńácala

Wares of hope came unexpected, suddenly;
A hurricane of light did arrive, was approaching.
The ray-spate, mountain-like,
Earth entire, shrouded, it let be.

Darkness remained not at any corner;
In no one's psyche did filth linger.
Lavishing great life upon life after life,
All contemplation, enticed, it received.

Those who'd been confined in a dark pit
With mundane thought's moundheap of ignorance,
Eyes they did spread... looking, did see
At daybreak, a purple mountain[nb 2] shining.

Notes

  1. ^ For details on the notation, see Roman Bengali transliteration.
  2. ^ Due to atmospheric conditions at dawn, sunlight may color eastern mountains purple. Metaphorically, such a mountain symbolizes spiritual majesty.
