Lyrics

Roman script[nb 1] Bengali script Translation

Maner madhuvane se esechilo
Kena jáni ná
Ceye ceye hesechilo

Kúṋŕi takhan phot́eniko
Malay haoyá baheniko
Nandaneri spandanete
Ákul áṋkhi melechilo

Carańdhvani phul phot́álo
Malayánil pare elo
Maner końe saḿgopane
Se madhu más ene dilo

Jiirńa gelo notun elo
Vyathár gáthá rauṋe hárálo
Álokmálár maiṋjuláte
Navavarśa tamah sarálo

He had come to the pleasure grove of mind;
Why so, I don't know.
Looking closely He had smiled.

Buds did not bloom at that time;
Blew not the winds of springtime.
By that same vibration pleasing,
Open did anxious eyes.

Sound of lotus feet made flowers rise;
He came, a southern breeze behind.
In a corner of the mind, secretly,
That sweet month[nb 2] He did provide.

Obsolete departed, and the new arrived;
Ballads of sorrow were defeated by dye.
Through sweet beauty of strings of light-beams,
Drear did the New Year set aside.
