O lord,
On my way to ask for You, in error
while coming to ask for you,
Your grant of a boon have I implored.
I mistakenly asked for your boon.
On my way to get the sea, one drop
Of mere saltwater have I got.

I went to get the ocean,
I did not know the difference twixt matter and consciousness;
but instead, i got a drop of salty water only.
I'd not learned which gives mundane pleasure and which, eternal bliss.
Relinquishing the giant tree and getting a fruit only,
I considered that to be intellectuality.

I did not understand
Whatever You gave with the right hand,
the difference between animate and inanimate.
With the left hand You have taken back.
I did not learn to differentiate between
When all asking and getting are finished,
what is pleasure and what is beneficial.
I've noticed that the final tally, it is nil.

You made no demand but You know I'm now with You,
I considered myself wise
These very words are played upon Your flute.
for getting the fruit
and leaving aside the tree itself.

Whatever you have given me with your right hand,
You have taken away with your left hand.

At the end of all desires and attainments,
on a final check, remains only nil.

You know that today i am with you,
I do not ask for anything,
for, it is your flute that sings this message.
