Takhan kena ele náko priya
Jakhan belá chilo
Sure chilo sádhá maneri kathá
Háriye gelo

Háte chilo bálá máthe chilo málá
Sájiye chilum varańd́álá
Saiṋcita jata anala jválá
Diip jvele dilo

Cale jáy belá kame áse álo
Bujhite perechi kii manda bhálo
Ámár e pradiip áj tumi jválo
Kśudhita paráńe priiti d́hálo

তখন কেন এলে নাকো প্রিয়
যখন বেলা ছিলো
সুরে ছিলো সাধা মনেরই কথা
হারিয়ে গেলো

হাতে ছিলো বালা মাথে ছিলো মালা
সাজিয়ে ছিলুম বরণডালা
সঞ্চিত যত অনল-জ্বালা
দীপ জ্বেলে' দিলো

চলে' যায় বেলা কমে' আসে আলো
বুঝিতে পেরেছি কী মন্দ-ভালো
আমার এ প্রদীপ আজ তুমি জ্বালো
ক্ষুধিত পরাণে প্রীতি ঢালো

Then, my Darling, why did You not arrive,
When there'd been an opportune time?
Mental secrets had been practiced in melody;
Lost at present, they retired.

On wrist had been bangles, upon head a wreath;
A wicker tray[nb 2] was I arranging.
What fire was amassed and blazing,
A lantern did it set alight.

Daytime goes away, abated comes the light;
What is good and bad I've been able to realize.
This my lamp, presently You ignite;
Love You pour into a hungry life.
