O lord,
Time after time to every side I gaze;
I searched you all over again and again.
Where art Thou, how far away?
Where are you and how far away?
Over the buds of blooming blue loti,
Round and round the honeybee, it flies.

Over the smiling blue lotus bud,
With the sound that southern winds bring
the bee gently hovers.
When touching on the tender sapling,
The sandal breeze brings sonance
With the blaze of light like gold molten,
when it touches the tender leaves.
When brightness rises in the heavens,
Your heart-filling sweetness do I crave
A hundred times, Lord, in a hundred ways.

Hot sparks of illumination
Through many an age I've gone on yearning,
appear in the heavens.
With the lamp of hope, patience enduring.

You are age-old and contemporary;
I want your sweetness
For an instant, please have mercy on me.
to fill my heart,
in hundreds of flows,
hundreds of times.

With this desire i have been moving on for ages,
carrying the lamp of hope,
without losing patience.

You are the ancient and the new.
Bestow your grace upon me for a moment.

Lyrics

Roman script[nb 1] Bengali script Translation

(Ámi) Cáridike cái báre báre
Tumi kothá ácho kata dúre
Smita kuvalay kuṋŕit́ire
Bhomará uŕiche ghire ghire

Malaya pavane áne je svanan
Kaci kishalaye choṋyá láge (jabe)
Tapta kańake álor jhalake
Alake alake dyuti jáge
(Ámi) Tomár mádhurii cái hiyá bhari
Shata báre prabhu shata dháre

Cáhiyá calechi kata jug dhari
Áshár pradiipe dhaerja ná hári
Tumi purátan tumi navatan
Krpá karo more kśańa tare

Time after time to every side I gaze;
Where art Thou, how far away?
Over the buds of blooming blue loti,
Round and round the honeybee, it flies.

With the sound that southern winds bring
When touching on the tender sapling,
With the blaze of light like gold molten,
When brightness rises in the heavens,
Your heart-filling sweetness do I crave
A hundred times, Lord, in a hundred ways.

Through many an age I've gone on yearning,
With the lamp of hope, patience enduring.
You are age-old and contemporary;
For an instant, please have mercy on me.
