Who came through the rising sun above the mountains,
O'er purple mountain,{{#tag:ref|Due to atmospheric conditions at dawn, sunlight may color eastern mountains purple.|group="nb"}} oh Who did appear?
and won my mind and life. without telling anything went away,
My heart and mind You took and conquered.
why have you made me cry like that. i did not know that you
With no warning You departed;
are so dear, so much loving, and so much attractive. i found
Doing so, for what reason did You make me weep?
you close, i filled my heart. you went kindling the lamp of my

life. whoever comes, goes, this is the law. i was thinking that
I was not knowing how much You are dear,
you are exception to that. i did not know that you were present
Such love, so alluring.
earlier too. now i know that you remain forever.
Yourself I got near and to heart's content received;
The lamp of life You kept on igniting.

What comes, that goes; the rule is this only.
I was understanding that You alone are its anomaly.
Even though I did not know that You also were before me,
I was knowing You went on, forever in my company.

Lyrics

Roman script[nb 1] Bengali script Translation

Aruńácale ke go ele
Mana práń jine nile
Kichu ná bale cale gele
Eman kare kena káṋdále

Jánitám ná tumi eta priya
Eta bhálabása ákarśańiiya
Káche pelum práń bhare nilum
Práńer pradiip tumi gele jvele

Jáhá áse táhá jáy ihái niyam
Bujhilám er tumii vyatikram
Jánitám ná tumi ágeo chile
Jánilám cirakál raye gele

O'er purple mountain,[nb 2] oh Who did appear?
My heart and mind You took and conquered.
With no warning You departed;
Doing so, for what reason did You make me weep?

I was not knowing how much You are dear,
Such love, so alluring.
Yourself I got near and to heart's content received;
The lamp of life You kept on igniting.

What comes, that goes; the rule is this only.
I was understanding that You alone are its anomaly.
Even though I did not know that You also were before me,
I was knowing You went on, forever in my company.
