Lyrics

Roman script[nb 1] Bengali script Translation

Ghumer desher parii ese
Balle tumi ghumiye jáo
Pashu pakhiider maumáchider
Máchederi mata ghumáo

Phulerá sab ghumiye geche
Buker madhu cápá áche
Áṋkhi mude tumio sho
Práńer sudhá d́heke náo

Ballum ámi ná ghumái
Jege jege rátri kát́ái
Madhu háráváre bhaye
Jege tháki jáno ná táo
E madhu d́háliyá jábo
Ugratáre sariye dáo

The fairy from the world of sleep came
and told me to keep sleeping.
Like animals, birds, bees and fish keep sleeping, so should i.
She said that just as flowers have slept
with honey hidden within them,
so too should i sleep with my eyes closed,
covering within me the nectar of life.

I told her that i would not sleep,
and that i would pass the night awake,
that i would keep awake lest some honey should get lost.
I then asked her if she didn't know that?
And i told her that i would pour out this honey,
and remove her anger.
