In the garden of my mind,
Into mind's garden has come a thief;
a thief came,
His capture He is not permitting.
who is not getting caught.
He took with Him all the honey;
To no constraint does He pay heed.

He took away my entire honey,
Day and night this thief arrives;
without being bothered by obstructions whatsoever.
Beside flower's pollen He does hide.
Going to nab this thief, meantime,
Mind gets rapt in the vast sky.

Day and night this thief is present,
This thief knows well how to like;
hiding within the pollen of flowers.
This thief rids darkness of mind.

This very thief's candied smile,
While trying to hold that thief,
The whole world it makes bright.
my mind gets engrossed in the great cosmos.

This thief knows how to love,
and destroys the darkness of my mind.

The sweet smile of that thief
radiates throughout the world.

Maner vane cor eseche is the 1223rd song of Prabhat Ranjan Sarkar's Prabhat Samgiita.[1][2]

Lyrics

Roman script[nb 1] Bengali script Translation

Maner vane cor eseche
Dhará náhi dicche je
Sakal madhu niye nilo[nb 2]
Bádhá náhi mánche se

Dine ráte e cor áse
Lukoy phuler parág páshe
E corke dharte gele
Man máte mahákáshe

E cor jáne báste bhálo
E cor náshe maner kálo
Ei coreri miśt́i hási
Vishvabhuvan udbháse

Into mind's garden has come a thief;
His capture He is not permitting.
He took with Him all the honey;
To no constraint does He pay heed.

Day and night this thief arrives;
Beside flower's pollen He does hide.
Going to nab this thief, meantime,
Mind gets rapt in the vast sky.

This thief knows well how to like;
This thief rids darkness of mind.
This very thief's candied smile,
The whole world it makes bright.

Notes

  1. ^ For details on the notation, see Roman Bengali transliteration.
  2. ^ In the audio rendition, nile (you took) is sung. However, the published Bengali book[2] reads nilo (he took), and that makes better sense contextually.
