Lyrics

Roman script[nb 1] Bengali script Translation

Sháradapráte mor ektáráte
Shepháliigandhe man gáne meteche

Mandamadhur haoyáte
Shishire bhejá martyabhúmite
Nrtye tále dhará chut́e caleche

Áj álor pathe nái meghera máná
Niilákáshe pákhii sab meleche d́áná
(Ei) Avárita pariveshe práńer naváveshe
Udvel hiyá kothá bhese caleche

Áj plávaner váridhárá kame eseche
Jege ut́há bhúmi nava sáje sejeche
Bhúlok dyulok májhe nandana madhusáje
Ke go nije dhará dile sabára káche

With my one-string lute on an autumn dawn,
In the fragrance of night jasmine,[nb 2] mind is lost in song.

In a pleasant, gentle breeze,
On dew-dampened earth,
With cadence and dance, the world speeds.

Today, on the path of light, clouds do not inhibit;
All birds are spreading their wings in the blue sky.
In this unobstructed atmosphere, in this new love of life,
My brimming heart, to where does it flow?

Today, torrential rains are abating;
Emergent land wears new garments.
Twixt heaven and earth, in pleasant sweet-scented raiment,
Who are You, magnanimous Lord, close to everyone?

Notes

  1. ^ For details on the notation, see Roman Bengali transliteration.
  2. ^ The night-flowering jasmine, known as shefali or shiuli in Bengali, is a tree or shrub whose fragrant flowers open at dusk and close at dawn. The flower is the official state flower of West Bengal.
