Lyrics

Roman script[nb 1] Bengali script Translation

Tumi ámár áshár álo
Tomár tarei málá gánthá
Tumi jána báste bhálo
Satata kai tomár[nb 2] kathá

Nijhum ráte nibhrta práte
Tomáke cái tanu manete
Tomár ásháy ámár hiyáy
Udvelita vyákulata
Mor duhkha sukher jata vyathá

Álor belá cháyár belá
Karechi sukh duhkher khelá
Sakal khelái tomáy niye
Tomári tanmayatá
Mor anubhútir itikathá

O lord,
You are my light of hope,
for you only,
I thread my garland.

You know how to love
and hence,
I speak about you always.

During calm nights and solitary mornings,
I love you wholeheartedly.

Expecting you,
my heart remains overwhelmed and restless.
It contains all feelings
of pain, pleasure and sorrow.

I played the game of pain and pleasure
during a time of light and shade.

All my game involved only you,
and thus, i became absorbed in you.

This, in short, is the history of my realisation.

Notes

  1. ^ For details on the notation, see Roman Bengali transliteration.
  2. ^ In the audio file, tava is sung. However, the latest Bangla edition reads tomár.[1] The meaning is the same, but tomár is less formal.
