Lyrics

Roman script[nb 1] Bengali script Translation

Tumi je phul diyácho bhariyá
Mor sájite
Se phule geṋthechi málá
Tava je hási paŕeche jhariyá
Mor hiyáte
Juŕáyeche sakala jválá

Mor áshá se tomáre ghire
Mor bháśá shudhu cáhe tomáre
Ámár sakala káj
Ámár sakala sáj
Tava bháve hay utalá

(Mor) Maner korake madhu áche
Práńer parág tá mákhiyáche
Sab kichu diyáchi
Báki náhi rákhiyáchi
Sajatane sájáye d́álá

Those flowers that You've packed
Into my flower basket—
With them, I have strung a garland.
Your smiles that have rained
Down upon my heart—
All my troubles they have allayed.

My hopes, around You they reel;
My speech but focuses on Thee.
All of my activities,
All of my accessories,
Are motivated by Your affinity.

In my mental blossom there is honey;[nb 2]
With it, my life-pollen has been smeared.
Having given everything,
Keeping nothing in arrears,
My wicker tray[nb 3] is arrayed carefully.

Notes

  1. ^ For details on the notation, see Roman Bengali transliteration.
  2. ^ As this song was given in Madhukoraka, Sarkar's Tiljala home in Kolkata, this line hints at a double meaning for this last verse or even for this entire song. At first glance, the song would be viewed as words from disciple to Guru, but perhaps the words flow in the other direction.
  3. ^ According to the Samsad Bengali-English Dictionary, d́álá (ডালা) is a tray-shaped basket that typically is used for holding offerings to a deity.
