Lyrics

Roman script[nb 1] Bengali script Translation

Ekt́i kathá shudhu ekt́i kathá
Tomáre shudhái
He bhuvaneshvar nirdvidháte
Kena jiive áno ei dharáte
Shudhu ki klesh dite

Jagate ese jiiv háse káṋde
(Kabhu) Jyotsnámáyáy kabhu ulkápáte
Mishe jáy dhúláy avaliiláy
Nirapekśa ek kat́ákśete

E liilá nit́hur khelá kena karo
(Kabhu) Shoke bhásáo kabhu khushite bharo
Kabhu nikat́e áso kabhu dúre saro
Asheś nirvisheś álo áṋdhárite

O The Controller of the world,
I am asking only one thing to You,
without any hesitation.
Why have You brought living beings,
only for giving them pains?
The living beings come to this world,
to smile and cry.
Sometimes with the charm of moonlight
and sometimes with fall of meteorites.
They merge with dust in this game,
in carefree manner, by one impartial look.
Why do You perform this liila’,
merciless play, sometimes floating in misery
and sometimes filling with joy?
Sometimes You come close
and sometimes move away
into endless, attribute-less,
light and darkness.
