Lyrics

Roman script[nb 1] Bengali script Translation

Esechilum áshá niye
Álo jhará prabháte
Kuvalayer sauṋgiite
Baitechilo malay takhan
Madir mákhá iuṋgite

Vitta kona chilo ná mor
Rikta chilo cittacakor
Matta chilum tandrári ghor
Áṋká chilo áṋkhite

Tomár páne áṋkhi pete
Tomár áloy ácambite
Man bhramará ut́hlo mete
Manda madhur samvite

Getting hope had I come
On a light-dripping morn
In the song of a blue lotus.[nb 2]
At the time, blowing was a southern wind
With heady-coated beckon.

There had been no riches mine;
Impoverished had been the partridge of mind.
Drunken I had been; just slumber-driven desires
Upon eyes had been drawn.

Toward You to set my eyes,
Suddenly, through Your light,
Psyche's bumblebee, overwhelmed, did arise
With a scant, sweet realization.

Notes

  1. ^ For details on the notation, see Roman Bengali transliteration.
  2. ^ The blue lotus, allegedly sinking below the water's surface at dusk and rising each morning at dawn, represents a passion for the sun.
