- ^ Stithodadhi (স্থিতোদধি) is not a common name for God. Literally, it would signify an ocean-dweller, a denizen of the sea. But as this verse describes a "time" before the universe was created, the sea is clearly the ocean of consciousness. The dweller must then be Parama Purusa Himself, the Supreme Consciousness.
