Lyrics

Roman script[nb 1] Bengali script Translation

Jyotsná ráte tumi esechile
Shubhra shucitá d́hele' diye giyechile
Ámi chinu ánmane kisera chale
Maner kathá mor tumi bujhe' niyechile

Se nishá ki jiivane ásibe ná ár
Se ráká ki manane hásibe ábár
Se shasháuṋka átauṋka sariye diye
Maner mayúre ki nácábe mantrabale

Ábár ese geche pháguner rát
Jhalake kiḿshuke nava anurág
Shálmaliishákhá dole navodita mukule
Priitir pasará punah dharátale rekhe' gele

On a moonlit night You had come;
Bright purity making pour, You had gone.
Distracted had I been by vain delusion,
My secret thoughts and feelings You had fathomed.

In life, won't that night re-appear?
That full moon at dawn,[nb 2] will it smile again in thinking?
That lunar crescent, having withdrawn,
Will it make mind's peacock dance by strength of mantra?

Phagun's night again having come and disappeared,
New affection blazes on the palash tree.
With buds newly risen sways a branch of silk-cotton;
On earth's surface once more has got left wares of love.
