Lyrics

Roman script[nb 1] Bengali script Translation

Vrndávaner máńik kánu
Kotháy gele moder phele
Nanda pitá má jashodá
Dhenu veńu giye bhule

Jamuná áj ekelá dháy
Kadam taru phul ná phot́áy
Tamál tale bháuṋgá gokule
Kálor álo ár ná dole

Moder jiivan tumi-i shyámaráy
Tumi gele sab cale jáy
(Áj) Veńuvane govardhane
Keu ná tákáy áṋkhi mele

Oh Kanu,[nb 2] the ruby of Vrndavan,
You went where, ourselves having left–
Father Nanda and Ma Jashoda,
Milch cow and reed pipe, having forgotten.

Today, the Jamuna races unaccompanied;
Blooms not the kadamba, blossom and tree.
Underneath the tamal at a Gokul moody,
No longer sways the light-ray of duskiness.

Our life, only You are the Dark King;[nb 3]
With You gone, goes away everything.
Today at Govardhan, in the bamboo forest,
No one looks with eyes open.
