The Meaning of the Word “Krśńa” is a discourse of Prabhat Ranjan Sarkar. Prabhat Ranjan Sarkar delivered this lecture on 12 January 1980 in Calcutta (now Kolkata).

Synopsis

Sarkar began the discourse with discussing one shloka of Bhagavad Giita—

Dharmakśetre Kurukśetre samavetá yuyutsavah;

Mámakáh Páńd́avashcaeva kimakurvata Saiṋjaya.

He considered the verse as the guiding or controlling verse of Giita. Then Sarkar gave three interpretations of the word "Krśńa" — a) one of the meanings of which is "to attract", "to draw everything to one’s self", b) he told, the second of the word "Krśńa" is black amd c) the third meaning of the word krśi bhúh or krśibhúh where "krś" means the feeling of "I am".

Later he discussed the biography of Krśńa in brief. He told Krśńa was a great personality and was born 3500 years ago, in Dvápara Yuga.[1]
