Cardinal Attributions of God is a discourse given by Shrii Shrii Anandamurti on 1978 September 14 in Patna, India. This discourse is the sixth chapter of Ananda Vacanamrtam Part 2.^[1]

Synopsis

“Klesha-karma-vipákáshayaeraparámrśt́ah Puruśa Visheśah Iishvarah”. The Visheśa Puruśa, not these Jiivátmás but that very Átman, that particular Átman who remains unassailed by the influence of klesha, karma, vipáka, and áshaya is known as Iishvara. In the Moghul period Kings at Delhi used to sometimes think that they were dilliishvaras – that they were Jagadiishavaras. Often they were forgetting the fact that they were neither dilliishvara nor jagadiishvara. They were ordinary souls.

Shrii Shrii Anandamurti

Anandamurti starts the discourse by explaining the term Iishvara: The entity unassailed by cardinal propensities. He then says that Klesha is caused by Avidya (ignorance) and thoroughly explains these five stages of cardinal ignorance: avidyá, asmitá, rága, dveśa and abhinivesha. Anandamurti goes on explaining the rest of the cardinal propensities: karma, vipáka and áshaya, concluding that Parama Purusa is unsallied by these tendencies and therefore He is called Iishvara.^[1]
