Pratyáhára Yoga and Paramágati is a discourse given by Shrii Shrii Anandamurti on 1978 September 24 in Patna, India. This discourse is the sixteenth chapter of Ananda Vacanamrtam Part 2.[1]
Synopsis
“Bhavámbodhipotam” sharanaḿ vrajámah.” Tad yacchecchánta átmani. “Now this pure ‘I’ feeling, ‘I exist’” – where all your propensities, along with the citta, and the citta along with the ahaḿtattva, and the ahaḿtattva along with the mahattattva, form one strong unit of movement – “is also to be withdrawn and merged into that Cognitive Principle.” And that Cognitive Principle is free from all bondages. And that is the Paramágati, that is the Supreme Goal of human existence.
Anandamurti starts the discourse by saying that as Pratyahara should be connected with Dharana, just as Pranayama is connected with a point in meditation. in both the vedas and tantras it has been said that only the Supreme entity should be taken as the object of mind. He then explains the word "smrti" - an internal recreation of an object of mind or memory. The best repetition, recreation of mind and goal is the Supreme Lord. Anandamurti goes on explaining that Parama Purusha in order to cross the turbulent waters of our past deeds, we must take Him as our only shelter.[1]
