Opening, Not Closing, the Heart With Kiirtana is the seventeenth discourse given by Shrii Shrii Anandamurti in Patna, India. The discourse was delivered in English on the evening of 1978 August 20. This discourse is the 15th chapter of Ananda Vacanamrtam Part 1.[1]

Synopsis

It is true that Náráyańa is everywhere, but the origin (sphurańa), radiation (viksurańa) and sensation (spandana) of His vibration will not be everywhere. He is everywhere, but that vibration originates from that place where His nucleus is. He seats that nucleus at that place where devotees sing His name. What can be a better place than that?

Shrii Shrii Anandamurti

Anandamurti in this discourse explains the meaning of a shloka: "Náhaḿ vasámi Vaekuńt́he yogiináḿ hrdaye na ca Madbhaktá yatra gáyante tatra tiśt́hámi Nárada." "Náhaḿ vasámi Vaekuńt́he yogiináḿ hrdaye na ca" - I do not remain in an expaned, benevolent mind nor in the heart of a yogi. Anandamurti explains what is the true meaning of yoga, hence a yogi is someone who merges his mind with the mind of ((Parama purusa)) and rebukes the idea described by other philosophers regarding yoga that in Yoga one has to suspend all his propensities. He explains that Narayana will not stay in the heart of those whom suspended their minds. "Madbhaktá yatra gáyante tatra tiśt́hámi Nárada" - I base my self at the center of the place where my devotees sing my name aloud (sing kiirtan). Here Anandamurti explains that although technically speaking, God is everywhere, still, He sets His nucleus at the place where His devotees sing His name with devotion and from there vibrations originate.[1]
