The Role of the Cognitive Faculty is a discourse given by Shrii Shrii Anandamurti on 1978 September 30 in Patna, India. This discourse is the twenty-second chapter of Ananda Vacanamrtam Part 2.[1]

Synopsis

Whenever one acquires atmajinánam, that is, when one knows, one gets the chance to realize what one is, then what does happen? One gets moksa. And, for this purpose, that is, to know one self the minimum qualification is “sukrtaer mánavo bhútvá”. Passing through so many animal lives in the phase of pratcaincara, one acquires a human body and is eligible – one has acquired the minimum qualifications.

Shrii Shrii Anandamurti

Anandamurti starts the discourse by explaining that Agama and Nigama are the two wings of Tantra. He then introduces the meaning of Tantra (to gain liberation through expansion in all spheres of existence)and says that according to Shiva the only requirement for becoming a spiritual aspirant is to have a human form. Anandamurti goes on explaining that living beings should goad their psychic expressions towards their inner self and develop love for the Supreme rather than look to the external world as their object. In this way, they can one day reach the state of Moksa (salvation).[1]
