I Have Become a Hero is a discourse given by Shrii Shrii Anandamurti. This discourse is the fifth chapter of Ananda Vacanamrtam Part 34.[1]
Synopsis
Life is to fight. Now when one starts fight, then he becomes a man in human structure. He is no longer a brute in human structure, he is a man in human structure. And in that phase he says: "O Lord, by Your mercy, by Your grace, I have become a hero, I have started fighting against debasing forces functioning within my mind, functioning within my family, functioning within the society. So by Your grace I have become a hero. I am a hero, I am a viira, thou art Viireshvara [Lord of Heroes]."
Anandamurti starts the discourse by saying that only when a man starts to battle against malicious forces within and without his mind, He can truly be called a man. Anandamurti then says that sádhaná is a fight between two forces: a centripetal force (Vidyá) and a centrifugal force (Avidyá). Anandamurti goes on explaining that the weapons of a sádhaka are the ten principles of morality, Yama and Niyama. With the help of jiṋána (knowledge), karma (action), and bhakti (devotion), his goal of merging in the Supreme will be attained.[1]
