Opening, Not Closing, the Heart With Kiirtana is the seventeenth chapter of Ananda Vacanamrtam Part 1.[1] The discourse was delivered on the evening of 1978 August 20.

Synopsis

It is true that Náráyańa is everywhere, but the origin (sphurańa), radiation (viksurańa) and sensation (spandana) of His vibration will not be everywhere. He is everywhere, but that vibration originates from that place where His nucleus is. He seats that nucleus at that place where devotees sing His name. What can be a better place than that?

Shrii Shrii Anandamurti

Anandamurti starts this discourse by explaining the meaning of a shloka: "Náhaḿ vasámi Vaekuńt́he yogiináḿ hrdaye na ca" - I do not remain in an expanded, benevolent mind or in the heart of a yogi. Anandamurti explains what is the true meaning of Yoga saying that a yogi is someone who merges his mind with the mind of Parama purusa. Anandamurti mentions that some people consider Yoga to be a practice of suspending the propensities of the mind, but He explains that Narayana will not stay in the heart of such yogis because no vibration can emanate from them in such a state. "Madbhaktá yatra gáyante tatra tiśt́hámi Nárada" - I position myself amid my devotees who sing kiirtan. Here Anandamurti explains that although God is everywhere, His nucleus is at that location where His name is sang with emotion and ecstasy.[1]
