The Requirements for Sádhaná is a discourse given by Shrii Shrii Anandamurti on 1978 October 13 in Patna, India. This discourse is the twelfth chapter of Ananda Vacanamrtam Part 3.[1]

Synopsis

You must remember the fact that, to realize Him, age, sex, academic qualifications and such things are not relevant. Great scholars, senior people and mahámahopádhyáya pańd́itas may lag behind, while an illiterate person races ahead and fulfills his or her purpose. You should not have any inferiority complex in your mind regarding age, sex, education, etc. You are His children. It is your birthright to reach Him, irrespective of your status, academic qualification, or age. Make proper utilization of this right.

Shrii Shrii Anandamurti

Anandamurti starts the discourse by presenting Parvatii's questions to Lord shiva: "What are the minimum qualifications for a Sadhaka (spiritual practitioner) and are there any other qualifications such as age, academic skills and so on?" Shiva's answer was that a human body is the sole qualification for performing Sadhana. Anandamurti then explains that the dharma of human beings is different from the dharma of animals or plants. realizing God within their hearts is their dharma, and self surrender is required in order to achieve this goal. Bhagavata Dharma has three essentials: expansion of mind, cosmic flow and service to all. Anandamurti goes on explaining that self realization is not a bonus given to an intellectual elite, but rather the birthright of all.[1]
