“The Minimum Qualifications for a Sádhaka” is a discourse given by Shrii Shrii Anandamurti in Kolkata, India. The discourse was delivered on the evening of 1978 November 9. This discourse is the seventeenth chapter of Ananda Vacanamrtam Part 4.^[1]

Synopsis

“Jiṋániicenmokśamapnuyát”. “One must attain self knowledge. The attainment of self knowledge means the attainment of salvation”. This was Shiva’s answer. In order to follow the path of spirituality one must possess one qualification, and that is, one must acquire a human body. All of you here have human bodies and that’s why you are entitled to follow the path of spirituality. This was Shiva’s reply.

Shrii Shrii Anandamurti

Anandamurti starts the discourse by saying that everything in this world is associated with fear in some way or another. Vaeragya (renunciation) is when a person had realized the temporary nature of material objects and their related colors and no longer desires to be dominated by the constant fluctuations of pleasure and pain. The best abode for the mind is the Supreme entity, free of all bondage. Anandamurti then explains that we obtain some knowledge from different transient objects (Prapti) which tends to be quickly forgotten. The knowledge we obtain directly from the Supreme entity remains with us forever (Apti). Anandamurti goes on saying that those who fill their minds with the Supreme truth and always remain under His shelter, will never be distracted by pettiness nor selfishness. They will fearlessly move along the path of bliss and achieve their spiritual goal.^[1]

They will move along the path of bliss and achieve their goal of uniting with Brahma.acquiring virtue is what makes people enjoy the positive fruits of their actions. Nevertheless, this will not lead them to salvation.
