The Three Prerequisites for Spiritual Knowledge is a discourse given by Shrii Shrii Anandamurti on 1978 October 24 in Patna, India. This discourse is the second chapter of Ananda Vacanamrtam Part 4.[1]

Synopsis

Thus in this world, out of these four words for friend, only Parama Puruśa can be bandhu, suhrda and sakhá. In this relative world you can only find a mitram, not a bandhu, suhrda, or sakhá. For Him you may use the word bandhu, suhrda, or sakhá: He is your everything. You cannot do without Him. Your relationship with Parama Puruśa is like the relationship of a fish with water. So it is futile to forget Him; try to remember Him always. This remembering Him always, in all spheres and all strata of life, is called “dhruvásmrti”. Don’t forget this for a single moment. By dint of your sádhaná, try to develop dhruvásmrti and be one with Him, and in peace, for infinity.

Shrii Shrii Anandamurti

Anandamurti starts the discourse by saying that Dharma stays with a person even after death. Its a person's friend for eternity. Anandamurti then explains the four different Samskrta words for the English term friend: Bandhu (when love is so strong that separation cannot be endured), Suhrda (a friend who guides you mentally and remains with you forever), Mitram (a colleague), and Sakha (due to so much love, the unit entities feels mentally identical with their sakha. Anandamurti goes on explaining that only Parama Purusha can be one's bandhu, shurda and sakha. The devotee ought to always remember God until She merges with Him.[1]
