Artha and Paramártha is a discourse given by Shrii Shrii Anandamurti in Kolkata, India. The discourse was delivered in English on the morning of 1978 November 4. This discourse is the tenth chapter of Ananda Vacanamrtam Part 4.[1]
Synopsis
To live in this physical world, to preserve our existence, Artha or money is essential. However, we also require Paramártha. Paramártha is that factor which brings about the permanent cessation of the triple afflictions. Here permanent cessation means cessation of those afflictions which, once removed, will never return again in the future. That Artha which brings permanent relief from the pangs of hunger, which is the instrument of permanent cessation, is called “Paramártha”.
Anandamurti starts the discourse by saying that common people find it hard to distinguish among the many philosophies and social theories and determine which is the right path; The path that leads to all round welfare. Anandamurti then explains that scripture vary. They all claim to be revealing cosmic truth, nevertheless the argue among themselves. Some say that Shudras, Women or homeless people are not entitled to do spiritual practices, others claim that wealth should be freely acquired by the intelligent people or distributed equally among all. Anandamurti goes on saying that all these religious decrees have nothing to do with Dharma. The root of Dharma is Parama Purusha and all entities find their shelter within His mind and He is the witness of every singular existence. Pleasing God . although Maya (Creative Principle, One aspect of Máyá is the power to cause the illusion that the finite created objects are the ultimate truth) has such a strong hold on the human mind, one should never forget that her power belongs to the Infinite entity. The best thing to do is to take shelter in the lap of Parama Purusa and remember that He is our beloved father.[1]
