Which Is the Right Path? is a discourse given by Shrii Shrii Anandamurti in Kolkata, India. The discourse was delivered in English on the morning of 1978 November 4. This discourse is the tenth chapter of Ananda Vacanamrtam Part 4.^[1]

Synopsis

Parents hate to see their children weep. If they do, they take them on their lap and comfort them with love and affection until their tears stop. You will have to build a society in which no one is forced to weep, where everyone smiles joyfully all the time and gets ample scope for laughter. Seeing such mirth and merriment, Parama Puruśa will feel immensely pleased. By giving joy to Parama Puruśa you will feel even more joyful and will feel His close proximity. This is the actual social code. And the actual spiritual code is the one that helps humans move towards Parama Puruśa. Under no circumstances should one create unnecessary controversies. The social code aims at bringing a broad smile to the faces of the progeny of Parama Puruśa. You should all move along this path – you are sure to meet with success.

Shrii Shrii Anandamurti

Anandamurti starts the discourse by saying that common people find it hard to distinguish among the many philosophies and determine which is the right path; The path that leads to all round welfare. Anandamurti then describes the absurdity of religious scriptures; Some instruct people to meditate facing East while others tell them to face West. If the all claim to represent the word of God, how come they differ from one another in their instructions? In regard to the Social code, some claim that an intelligent mind should try to accumulate as much wealth as possible while others call for an equal distribution. Anandamurti goes on saying that the base of Dharma is Parama Purusa and one is to use common sense to avoid all these wranglings. God is the shelter of all human beings whether they are widows, unmarried women, black or white and so on. Like a father He never wants to see them cry in pain. Therefore We must construct a society where no one is forced all these religious decrees have nothing to do with Dharma. The root of Dharma is Parama Purusha and all entities find their shelter within His mind. God never wants His children to be miserable, whether they are widows, unmarried young women, black or white. To serve all is the right social code and to keep the thought of Him ever awakened in our minds is the true spiritual code. Parama Purusha never wants to see anyone sad.^[1]
